09/04/2009 — Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys’ varsity soccer team defeated Bladensburg High School, 2-0, in a district contest played at Bladensburg High School.
Eleanor Roosevelt Blanks Bladensburg
If there was not already enough reason to be excited about this team and this season, now there is another. Eleanor Roosevelt blanked Bladensburg, 2-0, in its 2009 season-opener. Goals were scored by senior Adam Quigley and junior Jordon Horlien. Captain and goalkeeper Chris Bonnell had a clean sheet for the Raiders.
Raiders’ Coach George Kallas expects to gain some consistency from his team this season. He will have to wait and see how his squad progresses to make an accurate diagnosis. One thing is for certain: This 2009 team is a very focused group.
“A great win like that always raises confidence,” senior Harif Balogun said. “But we realize that it’s a long season and there’s a long way to go. We have to take it one game at a time.”
This is the first time the Raiders have beaten the Mustangs in years. Next game is out-of-county against Chesapeake on Wednesday, September 9th.
Bonnell and Balogun will miss the game as they will be in Wyoming on a research trip.
